Our office has been performing HydraFacials® on our patients for over a year now and it has quickly become a favorite treatment in our repertoire at Advanced Aesthetics for men and women from Spokane, Coeur D’Alene and surrounding areas. Patients have come back with an overwhelming response of satisfaction regarding the glow and suppleness of their skin.
How do we improve our patients’ satisfaction with the treatment you may ask? By talking about a sometimes-used function HydraFacial® offers called “mechanical lymphatic drainage.” During our Platinum HydraFacial, patients get this extra level of care included with their treatment.
Lymphatic drainage or lymphatic massage is by no means a new idea. It has been used since the 1930’s to aid in the circulation of lymph to reduce edema and improve the immune system. In regard to skin health HydraFacial has the following to say.
“Just like your body, your skin needs detoxification too. Mechanical lymphatic drainage may help to remove toxins to support a healthy immune system. Removing toxic build up is an important step towards skin health so skin can be healthy and radiant at its optimal level.”
The lymphatic drainage part of the HydraFacial treatment starts by gently opening the thoracic lymph nodes above your clavicle. Then using the small HydraFacial handpiece, light sweeping motions are performed on the face to draw edema to the lymph nodes by the ears and down the neck. With such a soft touch to the face it’s hard to believe anything is being done, but the lymph ducts require minimal touch to stimulate. In fact, if pressed too hard the duct will compress and nothing can flow through it, negating the whole point of performing mechanical lymphatic drainage. Patients report a relaxing sensation during treatment, and some see a slight reduction of puffiness to areas of the face.
