Why Do People Get Liposuction? (Updated 2023)

Dr. Kevin Johnson’s Advanced Aesthetics

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished that you could remove fat from certain areas of your body? Perhaps you are satisfied with your overall appearance, but would like to fine-tune specific areas in order to create a smooth and svelte shape? If this is the case, liposuction may be the treatment for you.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a popular surgical cosmetic treatment among both men and women. A time-tested and proven treatment for reducing fat in targeted areas of the body, liposuction is considered by many professionals to be the “gold standard” for fat removal.

Why Is Liposuction So Common?

Here are a few reasons why I believe liposuction is so popular:

Targeted Fat Reduction

Liposuction allows for targeted fat reduction. This means that those pesky fat deposits that seem impervious to exercise can be directly addressed, resulting in a more proportionate and contoured body.

Boosted Self-Confidence

A positive body image plays a crucial role in our self-esteem and overall well-being. By eliminating unwanted fat, liposuction can transform how we perceive ourselves, leading to increased self-confidence and a more positive outlook. When we feel comfortable in our own skin, we tend to engage in social activities more confidently and embrace life with newfound enthusiasm.

Minimally Invasive

Advancements in medical technology have paved the way for minimally invasive liposuction techniques like Smartlipo. Modern liposuction procedures are safer, more precise, and boast shorter recovery times compared to traditional methods. These advances mean that patients can return to their regular activities relatively quickly, experiencing minimal discomfort during the healing process.

Long-Lasting Results

Liposuction provides long-lasting results that can be maintained through a healthy lifestyle. Once the targeted fat cells are removed, they do not return, meaning the sculpted areas will retain their improved appearance indefinitely. This can be a huge motivating factor for individuals seeking a sustainable solution to their body contouring goals.

Treatment Versatility

Liposuction is a versatile procedure that can be tailored to address various body areas and types. Whether you desire a slimmer waistline, shapelier buttocks, or leaner thighs, liposuction can be customized to suit your unique needs and aesthetic goals.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

While there are certainly several benefits to liposuction treatment, not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure. In general, candidates are at a healthy BMI, but have pockets of excess fat that they have not been able to remove with diet and exercise alone.

What If I Am Not a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

For those who are not candidates for the surgical procedure, CoolSculpting® may be a good nonsurgical alternative. CoolSculpting can provide a small to moderate improvement in fat reduction for specific areas of the body. While the results are not directly comparable to liposuction treatments, CoolSculpting can yield impressive results of about a 20 to 25% reduction of fat in the targeted areas.
