In order to know if our innovative SmartSkin CO2™ treatment is right for you, it is first important to learn how the procedure works. The SmartSkin™ is comprised of a CO2 laser that is applied to the areas you are having treated via a unique scanning handpiece. The primary target of the CO2 laser is water molecules within the skin. By passing through the epidermis, the laser energy is delivered to the deeper, collagen bearing tissues below. The interaction of water, the CO2 laser, and collagen leads to collagen rejuvenation and skin tightening.
The SmartSkin CO2™ effectively stimulates and rejuvenates both the outer (epidermis) and inner (dermis) layers of your skin. The laser efficiently delivers laser pulses to the treatment area and each laser pulse creates a micro-zone of ablation in the epidermis; the number of pulses in a given area is carefully controlled. Spacing the laser pulses leaves part of the skin surface untouched, leading to faster healing and less downtime. By precisely control the timing and power level of the pulses, we can create more or less aggressive procedure results.
The SmartSkin™ procedure takes about an hour to complete, depending on the size of the area we are treating. Treatments will begin with the application of a topical numbing cream , after which the lasering portion will take place. We use several cooling techniques both during and after the treatment in order to further protect the skin. Once your treatment is complete, you will receive a post-procedure kit and detailed skincare instructions for the newly treated area.
Following treatment patients will notice some degree of redness and swelling, also, it is not uncommon for dark spots to get darker before flaking off.
