How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting uses a cooling process called Cryolipolysis™. Harvard dermatologists discovered that fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than other cells. As a result, cooling these areas led to the destruction of fat cells while leaving other tissues, including skin, unharmed.

How does it compare to liposuction?

Our patients from Spokane and Idaho don't always need liposuction. Although liposuction can often remove larger amounts of fat than CoolSculpting, it also requires incisions, anesthesia and recovery time. CoolSculpting removes fat cells without subjecting you to these realities of surgery, and it's kinder to skin and other surrounding tissues. While liposuction is an effective and precise method of fat removal, those who are not ready for surgery may prefer CoolSculpting.

Who is a candidate for CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is the ideal body contouring procedure for women and men who are within 10 to 15 pounds of their target body weight but wish to remove isolated fat deposits.

What happens during CoolSculpting?

The CoolSculpting applicator pulls the targeted area between 2 cooling panels to freeze fat cells in areas such as your abdomen, flanks and back. Cooling these cells to a very precise temperature destroys them, depleting the targeted fat layer. In the months following your procedure, your body will eliminate the fat cells naturally.

Will I feel any discomfort?

Most patients are comfortable during the CoolSculpting procedure, which requires no anesthetic. Patients can listen to music, watch a movie or surf the Web on our iPad, bring a book to read, bring work, or even nap or just relax during the procedure.

Where do the fat cells go?

The fat cells exit your body via your normal metabolic processes.

How long will my CoolSculpting session take?

Treatment times vary depending on the size and number of areas treated. In general, each treatment area requires one hour of treatment per session.

How many sessions will I require?

Some patients will only need one session. Others may require 2 or more visits for optimal fat removal. Dr. Johnson will discuss the possibility of further treatments during your follow-up appointment.

What results can I expect?

The cooled fat cells will begin to die off soon after each CoolSculpting session. Over the next 2 to 4 months, you will begin to notice a reduction in your fat bulges as your body gradually eliminates the dead fat cells. Many patients see their full results after 2 months.

The effects of CoolSculpting typically last as long as the results of liposuction. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen will maximize and prolong your results.

What will my recovery be like?

Because CoolSculpting is non-invasive and does not damage your skin, it requires no significant recovery time. Most patients can return to their daily routine, including work and exercise, on the day of their treatment.

Are there different applicator sizes?

We offer CoolSculpting with 2 possible applicator sizes. Many patients can have their abdomen treated in 2 cycles with the regular applicator, and each flank in a single cycle. Back fat beneath a bra strap can generally be treated 1 cycle per side. Patients with larger areas of fat may require 2 or 3 sessions scheduled more than a month apart for optimal results. Each cycle takes 1 hour.

The larger applicator typically treats 2.5 times the area treated by the regular applicator. In many cases, 1 cycle with this applicator can treat the entire abdomen. For some patients, the larger applicator can treat half of the abdomen and 1 flank in a single cycle.

We require a $100 deposit to schedule your CoolSculpting session. We will apply this amount to the cost of your CoolSculpting treatment. This deposit is refundable for cancellations requested 24 or more hours in advance.
